(SP) – While Russell Westbrook, James Harden and Kevin Durant are currently focused on trying to take their own teams deep into the NBA Playoffs, the players admitted individually this weekend that they have discussed with one another one day possibly forming a “super team” to try to win a championship together.
“It’s not something that any of us are focused on right now,” said Durant. “But, sure, we’ve had discussions. We know each other through basketball and I think that’s something that’s normal for players of our caliber to talk about. I think one team with the three of us on it could be really hard to beat. And for a long time, too.”
Harden said he thinks it would be cool if the trio brought a championship to an organization that had never won one before.
“Imagine if we played on a team in a city in middle America and brought them their first-ever major professional sports title,” he said. “That would be pretty cool. We’d be legends there forever. We’d own the town.”
Westbrook says that with the three of them providing the scoring, all the team would need then is a big guy inside who is a shot blocking, defensive presence.
“He’s obviously on the Raptors, but imagine adding someone like Serge Ibaka,” said Westbrook. “I don’t know if the NBA has ever had a core group of players, three MVP caliber guys, that good on one team. No offense to the Thunder, who I currently play for.”
