WASHINGTON, D.C. – Former president Barack Obama has announced how he plans to spend his first years out of the White House, revealing today he is launching a startup website that will join the crowded sports blog market.
“As everyone knows, I’m a big sports fan and sports were one of the few things from my previous life I kept an eye on while I was president,” Obama said today in the first post on his new site BaracksBets.net. “I’m excited to start a sports blog that will have the voice of a regular fan and I hope you all will check it out every day.”
The 43rd president also wrote that his NCAA Tournament picks, which previously ran on ESPN during his administration, will be posted “exclusively on BaracksBets.net this coming Tuesday. Don’t fill out your bracket until you see which teams get the (ex-)Presidential Seal of Approval!”
Later in the week, Obama promised he’d put up posts on the NBA MVP race and Tim Tebow and release a projection for the 1st Round of the NFL Draft: “I’m liking what I’ve predicted my Bears will do at No. 3.”
Former First Lady Michelle Obama said she supports her husbands new venture, at least for now.
“He had a very stressful eight years and obviously we both sacrificed a regular life, so I totally get where he’s coming from wanting to go in a completely different direction,” she said. “I just, I don’t know … can you make a living as a sports blogger? We have two kids to put through college.”
Obama also wrote that he is thinking of starting up a podcast and has reached out to his vice president and hardcore Philadelphia sports fan Joe Biden to co-host.
“I think Joe would be great,” wrote Obama. “He blew off steam the last eight years by calling into Philadelphia sports radio with the fake name ‘Joe B from DC,’ so I think he’d really enjoy this.”
