Celebrating diversity means touting the very fast and the very slow; the strong and the weak; the great leapers and the extremely earthbound. Does it not?
Here are the worst performances from the 2018 NFL combine. They all tried.
40-yard dash
Worst time: 5.85 seconds
Player: Orlando Brown, OL, Oklahoma
Will it hurt his draft stock?: Probably. Brown was expected to be selected in the 1st Round before the combine, but his stock has quickly fallen to the middle rounds. In fact, Brown placed first in the Stock Fall at the combine with a time of 5.85 seconds.
Bench
Lowest number of reps: 4
Player: Jordan Thomas, DB, Oklahoma
Will it hurt his draft stock?: Yeah, probably. Four reps is pretty bad. The silver lining is Brown and Thomas prove that if you are very slow and/or quite weak, you have a chance of playing Division I college football for the Oklahoma Sooners. #blessed #squadgoals
Vertical leap
Shortest jump: 19.5 inches
Player: Orlando Brown, OL, Oklahoma
Will it hurt his draft stock?: Not at all. Brown is 6-foot-8 but NFL teams will love his commitment to football as he clearly has no shot at playing in the NBA.
Broad jump
Shortest jump: 82.0 inches
Player: Orlando Brown, OL, Oklahoma
Will it hurt his draft stock?: Well, this is getting kind of depressing now. A Brown continuing to suck at a football thing is a little too on-the-nose, don’t you think? The NFL needs new writers.
3-cone drill
Worst time: 8.32 seconds
Player: Jamarco Jones, OL, Ohio State
Will it hurt his draft stock?: Without a doubt. Name me one offensive line star who didn’t put up a blistering 3-cone drill time. You can’t.
20-yard shuttle run
Worst time: 5.38 seconds
Player(s): tie between Orlando Brown and Toby Weathersby, OL, LSU
Will it hurt their draft stock?: No. Teams that want a plodding, ball control offense should be looking to draft both Brown and Weathersby for their offensive line. There will be no chance of getting pulled into a run-and-gun game.
60-yard shuttle run
Worst time: 12.79 seconds
Player: Ola Adeniyi, DL, Toledo
Will it hurt his draft stock?: Probably. But it’s not fair that the NFL doesn’t test at the combine for MACtion. Adeniyi would have done very well in that.
