(SP) – Vice President Mike Pence left an NFL game he had agreed to attend on Sunday soon after kickoff upon realizing the teams that were playing were the lowly Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers.
After leaving the game, the vice president posted the following to his official Twitter account:
“I was invited to an NFL game and accepted, but upon seeing the start of the contest, I realized that there were two horrible teams playing and I immediately decided I was not going to waste three and a half hours of my life watching that,” said Pence. “While it’s true that a vice president has no real duties, I know that doing literally anything else would be a better use of my time.”
Pence was asked if the pregame protests that featured players from both teams kneeling for the national anthem contributed to his decision to leave.
“Of course not,” he said. “If peaceful protest caused me to flee a stadium, I’d be more of a snowflake than even the biggest caricature of liberals. That said, our country is clearly divided. On one side, you have tens of thousands of people who would watch a Colts-49ers game. And on the other side, you have people who have lives.”
