(SP) – The Cleveland Browns confirmed today that they will skip the upcoming NFL Draft if the Browns have any picks in order to avoid drafting players who will become Browns.

“There is no reason to sugarcoat it: we have had trouble acquiring good players through the draft,” said team GM Sashi Brown. “Pretty much every player we select turns out terrible because they become Browns. So it’s time to change our approach. Our draft picks can’t become awful Browns players if we don’t select any future Browns players. I don’t know how we didn’t think of this before.”

There had been talk of some top junior quarterbacks staying in college if the Browns get the No. 1 pick in order to avoid the franchise, but Brown says that is no longer an issue.

“I have good news for them,” he said. “You have a future. You have hope. There is no way you will become a Cleveland Brown.”

While most NFL insiders say that it will be difficult for the Browns to ever become competitive without having actual football players, others disagree.

“This is the first time I’ve been a little worried about what they’re building over there,” said a front office member for an AFC North rival. “Right now they have 11 players on the field all the time who each make constant mistakes. But if they no players, they can’t make any mistakes. Empty space could be the best Browns players in modern history.”
