DALLAS – Longtime Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo announced his retirement today, saying he still felt he could contribute to an NFL team, but is happy where he left things.
“I love football, it’s never stopped being fun for me and I would have loved to play my whole life,” said Romo. “But you know what else is fun? Or at least funny? That the Texans are pretty much screwed at quarterback now. They have no one.”
After trading Brock Osweiler to the Browns last month, the Texans currently have only Tom Savage and Brandon Weeden on their roster. Savage is a 27-year old QB who has thrown only 92 passes in the NFL and spent most of his collegiate career at Rutgers, while Weeden is Brandon Weeden.
“I guess the Texans felt I was too injury-prone or whatever to acquire me,” said Romo. “Fine. That’s their right. But now they have a team that has talent throughout its roster, but will be quarterbacked by some guy I never heard of or Brandon Weeden, a 60-year old man whose most notable NFL moment is getting caught under a giant American flag. L-O-L.”
Romo was then asked if he thought the Texans will bid on current free agent quarterbacks Jay Cutler or Colin Kaepernick.
“Oh, boy. I hadn’t even thought of that, but that might even be funnier,” he said. “Cutler, and I say this as an actual NFL analyst now … Cutler is terrible. And Kaepernick living in the state of Texas, well that would be a sort of entertainment in its own way.”
