(SP) – As the Pittsburgh Steelers evaluate their roster with the NFL postseason set to begin, there is a growing concern internally that their nemesis, the New England Patriots, would try to sign running back Le’Veon Bell if the Steelers were to release him.
“He’s exactly what the Patriots would look for in a player,” said a Steelers coach. “For example, he’s arguably the best player in all of football. Also, he knows all our plays and could give them intel. That’s a real concern.”
But the Steelers say they will not let the looming Patriots impact their decision on whether or not to retain Bell’s services.
”We have to worry about our team and what’s best for us,” said a front office source. “Certain players fit better and other systems and if that’s with New England, we can’t worry about that. We want to field the best team we can.”
The Steelers did say, however, that they likely will keep Bell regardless.
“He’s really good,” said a team source.
