(SP) – Concerns that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz would be lost for the season with a serious knee injury were relieved today when the NFL announced that Wentz has cleared its knee injury protocol and can return to practice tomorrow.
“This is obviously great news for our team,” said Eagles head coach Doug Pederson. “Things looked bad for Carson, but if the knee protocol says he’ll be okay, we have to trust that. He’ll be in the lineup on Sunday.”
Wentz said that he is happy to get the go-ahead for Sunday, but admitted that he is a little concerned about his ability to be 100-percent.
”If the protocol says I’m good, I’ll go with it,” he said. “But my knee is currently three times its normal size and I’m in a wheelchair. I think I’ll struggle a little to see over the line on pass plays, but I’ll do my best.”
The quarterback passed the NFL protocol when several spotters and trainers confirmed that he did, in fact, have a knee and that it was in between his upper and lower legs, per usual.
“Carson could have returned for the fourth quarter,” said a league official. “But for some reason they chose to sit him. That was their choice.”
