(SP) – New York Mets mascot Mr. Met confirmed today that he will guest star in this week’s new episode of Game Of Thrones. The foam baseball-headed man forms an alliance with Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister in the episode.
“I’ve always loved the show and it was one of the highlights of my life to be asked to guest star,” said Mr. Met. “One of the writers is a Mets fan and I was honored to be asked.”
Showrunner David Benioff said the mascot is a perfect fit for the show.
“We have dragons and giants and ice zombies with blue, glowing eyes,” he said. “So a man with a giant baseball for his head fits right in. I think viewers will love it.”
But many Game Of Thrones fans are already ripping Mr. Met’s inclusion in the show on message boards, claiming having a baseball mascot “in a world where baseball doesn’t even exist” is “somehow almost as bad as Ed Sheeran” and “the latest sign of a show on the decline.”
Benioff, however, says adding Mr. Met to the show is worth it.
“I don’t want to spoil too much,” he said. “But a t-shirt cannon can do a lot of damage to a castle if used properly.”
The show is also reportedly talking to Mets farmhand Tim Tebow about being in a future episode.
