(SP) – NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport is facing pushback today in light of holes beginning to develop in his exclusive report that next month’s Super Bowl will feature the Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings. Specifically, both the Jaguars and Vikings lost in the conference championship round.
As the final seconds counted down in Philadelphia’s 38-7 win over Minnesota in the NFC title game — hours after the Jaguars lost to the Patriots on the AFC side — Rapoport tweeted out on his @RapSheet Twitter account: “EXCLUSIVE – According to sources, the Super Bowl Lee will be between the Jaguars and Vikings on February 5th in Manitoba.”
In addition to having the wrong teams, Rapoport misnamed Super Bowl LI and also had the wrong date and location. It is just the latest bit of wrong information reported by Rapoport, but the tweet still remains up as of the publishing of this article. It is not the most recent tweet by Rapoport, however. Early in the afternoon on Monday he broke the news:
“The Cardinals have named a new coach: Jon Gruden. Big get for the city of St. Louis.”
