(SP) – Reports out of Miami Dolphins camp suggest that starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill could be out for an extended period of time or even lost for the season after re-injuring his knee, leading to concern in the front office that now everyone is going to yell at them about Colin Kaepernick.
“From the second he went down, my first thought was: ‘Oh, no. Now we’re going to have to go through the whole Kaepernick thing,'” said head coach Adam Gase. “I feel bad for Ryan that he got hurt, but I feel worse for me. His knee means half the country is now going to call me racist or anti-American.”
Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said the goal of every NFL team in training camp this summer was to not have one of their top two quarterbacks suffer an injury.
“No team wants to have to go through the Kaepernick news cycle,” Ross said. “Are people going to ask me now if I’ve considered Ray Lewis’ thoughts on the issue? This sucks so bad.”
Gase said he believes Kaepernick would be an asset to the team.
“I’ll say it. He’s a good quarterback. Probably even better than Tannehill and … oh god,” Gase said. “I just remembered that if we sign him, we’re going to piss off Miami’s Cuban community, too, because he said that stuff about Castro. I think I want to quit.”
