BOSTON – The Celtics chances of knocking off the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference this year appear to be over after general manager and team president Danny Ainge failed to land an impact player before the trade deadline. Boston was linked to DeMarcus Cousins in recent weeks and then Paul George as the deadline neared, but neither deal came to fruition. Celtics fans on social media immediately expressed their disappointment and outrage, but Ainge wouldn’t have any of it at a press conference this afternoon.
Reading from a statement, Ainge said: “You people are so annoying. Seriously. You are never happy. We have a good, young, exciting and contending team and all you want to do is bitch. A deal didn’t work out, okay? Get over it. The Patriots just won the Super Bowl so stop complaining. You have nothing to be upset about.”
Ainge then opened it up to questions from the press. After a few moments of awkward silence, one reporter piped up.
“Danny, so tell me what it was that prevented the Paul Geo-.”
“Let me cut you off right there,” Ainge interrupted. “I can tell that you’re planning to whine about us not getting Paul George. I told you to shut up. I hate this city and the people in it so much. You’re so entitled. You can never just be happy. You have to have every championship and even when you do, you bitch about people not respecting your champions enough. It’s awful. Everyone hates you. I hate you. I should have kept playing baseball and lived out my life in Toronto. I think about that every day.”
Ainge then walked off the dais and was overheard mumbling “Patriots cheat anyway. It’s not as easy as they make it look.”
