(SP) – New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski today announced he is ending his time on the football field and will pursue a career as an action movie star.
Gronk says he has signed a 16-movie deal with a production studio called Patriots that is helmed by “an acclaimed director named Bill B.” The movies will be shot in the fall and winter of 2018 and will feature Gronkowski catching passes, blocking and running people over.
“I’m really excited about the new chapter in my career,” said Gronkowski. “I enjoyed my time as a football player, but it’s time to move on to something else. It will be awesome to get paid to catch stuff, block things and run people over. Wait a minute.”
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick confirmed it is the team that signed Gronkowski to the deal, insisting he didn’t do anything underhanded.
“Football is action and it’s on TV, right?” said the head coach. “We’re giving him exactly what he wants. And we get what we want, too, which is having Gronkowski on the field. He’s a great football player and incredibly dumb person, as this deal again illustrates.”
Gronk said he also negotiated his new deal so that he receives 69% of what he was paid with the football Patriots.
“Haha. Nice,” said Gronk. “I win again.”
