(SP) – Former NFL quarterback Vince Young, who has not played in a game since the 2011 season, is expected to receive a big offer as a free agent in light of teams realizing that his career was done in not by poor play, but being coached by Jeff Fisher.
“Vince played five years under Jeff Fisher and had a 30-17 record as a starter and a 75.7 QB rating,” said one NFL GM who has expressed interest in the now 34-year old’s services. “Not only is he not a failed quarterbacks, based on what we know now about Jeff Fisher, Vince Young may be one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time.”
The upcoming NFC title game will feature teams quarterbacked by Case Keenum and Nick Foles, two quarterbacks who washed out under Fisher with the Rams but have excelled away from Fisher.
“Teams were going to be throwing money at Jimmy Garoppolo or Kirk Cousins,” said a team front office source. “But no more. If you don’t call Vince Young first, you don’t want to win. Vince is six years younger than Tom Brady and eight years free of Jeff Fisher’s influence. I see him coming right in and putting up 5,500 yards of offense passing and throwing and a good 40 TDs.”
Sources close to Young said the NFL has finally realized the former Titans’ value.
“They lost his prime years, but he can still do a lot in the league,” said a friend. “Without Jeff Fisher, he can win a Super Bowl on a good team. And I think Vince can give a 7-9 win increase to any bad team, too.”
