(SP) – After another poor performance in training camp drills today by their quarterback, there is growing concern from several NFL teams that their bad quarterback did not magically get better in the offseason and will remain bad again this season.
“Obviously, we would have loved to see him come out and light it up in training camp from the outset, but that hasn’t happened so far,” said the team’s head coach. “You don’t want to read too much into a few practices, but it is a bit troublesome when you put it into a broader context of the fact that he’s been bad for all the years he’s been in the league leading up to this week.”
The quarterback threw several interceptions today in 7-on-7 drills and then was picked multiple times again in 11-on-11. Many other passes that were not intercepted were badly off the mark. The performance reminded many of his play in the past.
“This is a guy we put a lot of faith in in this organization and we need him to play well if we’re going to have success this season,” said the team’s offensive coordinator. “We had hoped he would get much better at football in these past seven months of not playing football, but so far we’re not seeing it. However, it’s still early though and we don’t exactly have any better options on the roster.”
The coaching staff and front office did say that everything could change with one good performance, however.
“Oh, no doubt,” said the head coach. “If he has a preseason game where he goes 4-for-7 and doesn’t turn the ball over and leads us right down the field for a field goal, I think we’ll be very bullish on his future again.”
