(SP) – In comments that won’t surprise any of his critics, Nashville Predators defenseman P.K. Subban admitted today that he is motivated to win the Stanley Cup and see his name etched onto the silver chalice for all-time.
“Yeah, I mean, winning the Stanley Cup has always been a dream of mine since I was a little kid,” Subban said. “And it’s exciting to be this close to getting to touch it. Getting your name etched into it comes along with all that, and that’s pretty cool.”
Subban coming right out and saying he wants the glory of the Stanley Cup for himself has touched off a firestorm from his usual detractors.
“I think you can see his attitude is why we didn’t want him here,” said one source in the Canadiens front office. “Needless to say, you won’t hear Shea Weber talking about getting his name on the Cup right now. That’s just not the kind of player he is.”
If Subban does win the Cup this year, he said he will bring it back to show to the children his P.K. Subban Foundation has aided in Montreal.
“It doesn’t get more classless than that,” said the Canadiens source. “Rubbing it in our faces and mocking sick kids. Really sad. But that’s just the kind of guy he is.”
