(SP) – Despite his quiet and reserved image, a very different side of San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard was caught on tape last night during his team’s game against the Rockets when Leonard repeatedly told Houston players about the importance of responsible waste disposal.
“I never heard him talk that much, but he was going on and on about how littering is bad and that to be good stewards of the Earth, we must properly dispose of our waste and recycle,” said Rockets guard James Harden. “And, yeah, he repeatedly said the word ‘stewards.’ Dude is weird.”
Houston swingman Trevor Ariza said Leonard’s trash talk got personal.
“He said to me: ‘Yo mama has so ruined our environment, and really her whole generation, that we have a lot of work to do,'” Ariza recalled. “And then he handed me a pamphlet about things that can and can’t be recycled while we were standing in the lane watching Tony Parker shoot free throws. What did he want me to do with a pamphlet in the middle of the game?”
Leonard confirmed after the game that he did talk trash.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make anyone feel uncomfortable by me sharing my opinion,” he said. “But I read an article about landfills in The Atlantic yesterday and it was really on my mind. I got caught up with enthusiasm about the issue. It will never happen again.”
