SEATTLE – According to numerous team sources around the NFL, the Seahawks are actively shopping the 12th Man and would like to trade the fanbase before the upcoming NFL Draft.
“While they obviously have some good years together, there’s the sense in the Seahawks front office that the 12th Man thinks its impact on the success of the franchise is a lot greater than it actually is,” said a source. “Pete Carroll doesn’t think it’s healthy for the locker room for the 12th Man to be trying to take so much credit for everything.”
A Seahawks front office member says there is a growing feeling among the team that the 12th Man is not worth all the attention and pandering it requires to be happy.
“If you need to be told by the players and coaches how great you are all the time and that you’re the best in the world, you’re pretty high maintenance — and you have to be producing at a really high level to be high maintenance in this league,” said the coach. “But at the end of the day, what is the 12th Man doing that’s any different than any fanbase out there? They yell and paint their faces? The players are the ones out there making tackles and scoring touchdowns. We can win games in front of no one if we have to.”
While the Seahawks are hoping to trade the 12th Man, team officials believe things could work out if no deal comes to fruition.
“If we don’t win the Super Bowl again this year for the fourth year in a row,” said the staffer, “the 12th Man will probably just go away on its own, just like they showed up out of nowhere when we started winning. That would be great.”
