(SP) – Free agent Colin Kaepernick is expected to be signed to a lucrative contract by an NFL team in the coming days after punching a woman who did not stand up for the national anthem last night. The quarterback attended a Sacramento Kings NBA game and assaulted a female fan near him who wore a hat and stayed seated during the pregame anthem.

“My phone has been ringing non-stop since the news broke,” Kaepernick’s agent confirmed this morning. “Starting jobs, backup jobs with an opportunity to start, backup jobs with good teams … we’re pretty much going to have our pick of the litter. Teams are really happy with the new Colin.”

Despite posting a 90.7 quarterback rating last year and being the league’s best running threat from the position, Kaepernick has received no interest from NFL teams as a free agent so far, even as inferior QBs have been scooped up across the league. But it appears that is about to change.

“Maybe what happened last night was legit, maybe it was staged to get NFL teams back on his side,” said one NFL GM. “I hope it was a legit assault. But either way, I’m good with it. It shows he is willing to signal that he will support the troops or whatever it was everyone was so upset about. That’s all he needed to take care of for the optics to re-start his career.”

Another league executive said he likes the aggressiveness Kaepernick showed.

“Some of these athletic, running QBs are a bit too finesse for my taste, you know?” said the front office exec. “But if you punch a woman, it proves to me you’re probably willing to punch it in at the goal line, too. This is a violent, emotional game and I want violent, emotional players. Plus, he punched a woman for America and I can’t imagine anyone being against that.”
