(SP) – The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly looking to see if they can void their trade with the New England Patriots that brought them Jimmy Garoppolo after discovering that Garoppolo is not Tom Brady.

“The whole idea of trading for Garoppolo is that we kind of hoped we was basically Tom Brady because he, you know, plays the same position and was on the same roster and … well, I guess that was it,” said a San Francisco front office source. “But then we he showed up here and, well, he’s not Tom Brady.”

Garoppolo reportedly performed admirably in his first practice with the 49ers, yet many associated with the club were openly disappointed.

“I don’t know, it’s just that when he’s out of his Patriots stuff and in our gear, he looks significantly worse,” said a team source. “I guess the mystique of being a Patriot isn’t there anymore and he just looks like, you know … another guy or whatever. There’s definitely buyer’s remorse going on.”

Garoppolo said that despite playing under Brady for several years, he is going to be himself.

“I’m focused on being the best Jimmy Garoppolo, not Tom Brady,” he said.

“Oooh, can you not?” replied a 49ers staffer. “We got you specifically because we hoped you would somehow magically be Tom Brady. I mean, I barely ever heard of Jimmy Garoppolo. He’s done nothing in this league.”
