ABERDEEN, SCOTLAND – JULY 10: Donald Trump plays a round of golf after the opening of The Trump International Golf Links Course on July 10, 2012 in Balmedie, Scotland. (SP) – White House spokesman Sean Spicer confirmed today that President Donald Trump will play in The Masters this April, but insisted the president is doing so to help the American people.

“I think when you have one of the premier golf tournaments in the world on American soil, it only makes sense for the president to participate in some way,” Spicer told reporters. “What most people don’t realize and what the president’s critics surely don’t want to admit, is that high-level golf tournaments have sponsors and representatives from some of the largest corporations in the world there and it is perfectly appropriate and, in fact, necessary for the president to be there to do the business of the people.”

But Spicer did also confirm that the president will play in the tournament, thanks to a special exemption from Augusta National chairman Billy Payne.

“The fact of the matter is that President Trump is a very good golfer and can represent the country well and help us win a green jacket again,” said Spicer. “It’s a matter of record that he is the healthiest president ever, as well as the best athlete and best golfer to ever occupy the Oval Office. I just think it’s sad that for all the golf President Obama played, he never got good enough to compete in a major — or, more likely, simply didn’t have the courage to compete for the honor of America.”

Danny Willett of England won the Masters in 2016, meaning golfers from other countries have won five of the last nine green jackets, and the president will face a loaded field in Augusta.

“I think his chances are good,” said Spicer. “If he doesn’t win, it’s because he’s only been able to play about two rounds a week due to all the work he’s doing for the American people. I will remind the other golfers that the president will be accompanied by the Secret Service, and they are ordered to shoot anyone who swings things around the Commander in Chief. Fair warning.”

While some on the left have already claimed that Trump’s Masters entry is an example of the president abusing executive privilege and spending his time on personal leisure again, others are happy with the announcement.

“This guy can’t stop losing,” said one Democratic senator. “He’s going to shoot over 100 twice and get cut before the weekend and the whole country will laugh at him again. His presidency has been so much more enjoyable than I expected, I will admit that.”

Perhaps anticipating that Trump will not play well in the Masters, Breitbart and InfoWars both ran stories today claiming there are huge irregularities in golf leaderboards to the point that they are not reliable for accurate information.
