Conor McGregor seems like a man who holds a grudge, which isn’t really a surprise when you consider what he does for a living.

When the Irishman was beaten by Nate Diaz in March 2016, he waited just a matter of months before returning to the Octagon to beat him in a brilliant rematch. So, it was no surprise when it was confirmed that McGregor would be swiftly arranging another scrap against Dustin Poirier following his defeat earlier this year. Anyway, if McGregor gets his revenge on Poirier, there will only be one thing on his mind.

McGregor Will Always be Haunted by One Foe

Yes, despite his fantastic career, there’s one battle the 32-year-old will be remembered for. Of course, we’re talking about Khabib.

From attacking buses to fly-kicking each other’s friends in the crowd, I think it’s fair to say the two didn’t really get on. For McGregor, it remains his biggest embarrassment in the octagon. It’s the one he would desperately love to redress.

So, Khabib’s retirement presented him with something of a problem. How can you fight the man that doesn’t fight any more? Hmm…

Even McGregor, with his sharp wit and crude talk, is going to struggle to antagonise the Russian out of retirement. A heap of cash doesn’t appear to have done the trick either.

That leaves McGregor in a difficult position, but he must have realised by now that there is an answer out there.

He must turn to football.

Could the Score be Settled in the Champions League?

With his nemesis receiving an offer from FC Kamaz, a Russian third division side, it means McGregor will have to take it to the pitch. There are 14 other teams in the league, so someone will surely give the Dubliner a contract. If not, he can just go and smash up a team bus until they do. Problem solved.

Of course, it would be better if this wasn’t the Russian third division. These two elite athletes deserve the biggest stage. PSG and Manchester City in the Champions League semi-final would do. The latest football betting on Space Casino odds show Pep Guardiola’s side are 4/7 favourites to qualify, and it’s sure to be an epic two games. Goals, counter-attacks, high tempo, quality.

But, is that really enough? Of course, it’s not.

If the two brought in Khabib and McGregor we could combine that excellent football with old-school brutality.

Whilst Kevin De Bruyne is picking out fantastic through balls, these two can be trading punches. When Ruben Dias is making last-ditch tackles, these two will be whacking each other with the corner flags. It really would be the best of both worlds. Then, just imagine if one of them got hold of Neymar. The beautiful game. This would be a real Super League.

McGregor wouldn’t be able to get distracted by the Brazilian and his fancy flicks though. He needs revenge. It’s all about Khabib. A 50:50 challenge between the two could end the world.

If they can’t do it in the Champions League, and we do acknowledge that it’s something of a long shot, then the Russian third division will have to do for McGregor.

All roads to his great rival have been cut off for now, but there’s always a way and football could be the answer.
